Demolished on 28th October 1999, the Central Methodist Church in Union Street was built in 1815. It was erected primarily as a result of the zeal and determination of James Wrigley, once a poor Chesham weaver who, with the help of industrialist Sir Robert Peel, had acquired considerable wealth. He was a man of deep Christian commitment and dedicated much of his wealth to the building of the new Chapel. It was in plain Georgian style with a spacious galleried interior capable of accommodating a substantial congregation
