Walshaw and Christ Church

When Jesse Haworth died in 1887 at the age of 83, his nephew, Rev. John Gorell Haworth, together with his aunt Nancy Haworth proposed that an Anglican Church be built at Walshaw in his memory. The Rev. Haworth had established a Sunday School in the village in 1847, but was now the vicar of a parish in Rossendale. The Jesse Haworth Memorial Church was subsequently built, and was consecrated in 1889.
