Whitehead Clock Tower |

The local architectural firm of Maxwell and Tuke was responsible for designing a large number of buildings, the last of which was this Clock Tower which stands in gardens off Manchester Road, just south of the Town Hall. A South African War memorial depicting a victorious soldier stands in the same gardens. Maxwell and Tuke were also responsible for designing Blackpool Tower, together with a large collection of buildings in this part of the north-west. |
